Our Vision
Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division is committed to identifying, removing, and preventing accessibility barriers for individuals who work at or access school division facilities, programs, and services. CTTCS is committed to enhancing our welcoming, safe, and inclusive culture and learning environment for all members of our community.
Part of this commitment involves working together with community members, students, families, and staff to provide equitable opportunities for people with disabilities across our teaching and learning environments.
Understanding Accessibility Barriers
Accessibility barriers occur when systems, spaces, and information are not designed for everyone. Key barriers include:
- Physical Barriers: Physical barriers happen when spaces and objects are designed in ways that make it hard for persons with disabilities to get into buildings or other spaces.
- Information and Communication Barriers: Information and communication barriers happen when information is not given in a way that everyone can use.
- Attitudinal Barriers: Attitudinal barriers happen when people think or act towards persons with disabilities based on wrong ideas.
- Technological Barriers: Technological barriers happen when technology is made in a way that not everyone can use (e.g., lack of assistive devices or classroom technology).
Our Approach
The Accessible Saskatchewan Act, enabled in December 2023, is a provincial legislation aimed at removing and preventing barriers that affect people with disabilities. The development of a three-year accessibility plan is our first step to formalize our efforts and to support our commitment to meeting the requirements of The Accessibility Act. This plan will guide our priorities, budgets, and actions to advance accessibility across all properties and spaces in Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division.
