French Immersion... The Gift of Language |
French immersion is open to all students. French immersion is a highly successful approach that enables students to become functionally fluent in French while they continue to develop English Language skills. If you want your child to develop proficiency in Canada's two official languages, and to learn about another culture, French immersion has a great deal to offer. Christ the Teacher offers French Immersion in the communities of Melville (Saint Henry's Jr. and Sr. Schools) and in Yorkton (Saint Michael's School and Sacred Heart High School).

Sacred Heart High School plans tour to China in 2013 |
Sacred Heart Teachers are in the beginning stages of planning an EF Educational tour of China with stops at four cities across China. An Informational meeting was held in December at SHHS outlining the trip and all the planned activities for students and parents. Response was overwhelming with over 45 students applying to take part in the adventure. Students will begin preparing and fundraising for this tour which will take place during the Easter break in 2013. The Tour Coordinator, Perry Enns, says "the students are very excited to experience all of the Historical sites, the Chinese culture and of course to try all sorts of new food while on this once-in-a-lifetime tour".
The ten day tour will begin in Beijing where students will visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Beijing Zoo, and walk on the Great Wall of China. The Tour will then visit Xi'an where students will follow in the footsteps of Marco Polo and visit the life-size Terra Cotta Warriors which were sculpted in 206 B.C. The Yangshou tour will include a bamboo raft excursion along the Li River and the amazing sites of Shanghai will complete the tour. |

L'Ecole St. Michael's School Celebrates Gratitude |
On Tuesday October 4th , Mr. Vic Hammer came to talk to the students of L’Ecole St. Michael’s School about the Shoeman Water Project. The Shoeman Project collects used and new shoes that were shipped to Kenya and sold at an affordable cost to people in need. Money made from the sale of the shoes is used to drill water wells to provide clean drinking water for Kenyan communities in need. Throughout the rest of the week, students of L’Ecole St. Michael’s School proceeded to bring in bags of shoes for donation to donate to the Shoeman Water project. This project is one of the projects to teach the students about Gratitude, which is the school division’s focus this year as part of Stewardship.
